BUNKER HILL, W.Va. — Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies tracked down a Harpers Ferry man allegedly involved in a road-rage shooting in Frederick County, Virginia.
Frederick County (VA) police said the man, identified as Elijah Stout-Griffin, 19, of Harpers Ferry, may have traveled into West Virginia in a Jeep Compass on I-81.
FCSO reports there had been an apparent road rage incident between two motorists in Frederick County that lead to shots being fired.
The incident occurred just after 2:00 in the afternoon off Martinsburg Pike and Welltown Road in front of a gas station.
The suspect reportedly got out of his vehicle at the red light, walked back to the victim’s vehicle, holding something in his hand, and then displayed a firearm to the victim driver. It appears that the victim attempted to flee from the suspect and, in doing so, hit the suspect with his vehicle knocking him to the ground as the suspect fired several shots at the now-moving vehicle operated by the victim.
The suspect got up from the ground, returned to his vehicle and fled the scene northbound on 1-81. Shortly before 4 p.m., Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a tip that the suspect might be at a home in Bunker Hill.
Stout-Griffin was taken into custody outside the home without incident.
Deputies on the scene of the shooting recovered shell casings, obtained video recordings from witnesses and businesses and statements. The vehicle and the firearm believed to have been involved in the incident were secured at the home in Bunker Hill.
Stout-Griffin was ordered held awaiting extradition. Charges include Felony Attempted Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Felony Malicious Shooting at Occupied Vehicle and Misdemeanor Brandishing of a firearm.
