Marshall’s matchup with South Alabama postponed until February

The Sun Belt Conference has announced the Marshall men’s basketball team’s home matchup with South Alabama has been postponed due to an expected snowstorm this weekend.

Originally slated to be played Saturday at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, the contest has instead been moved to February 16 with a 7 p.m. tip time.

Earlier this week, the originally-scheduled contest between the Herd and Jaguars was moved up from 4 p.m. to noon.

“We want to thank everyone who worked tirelessly to prepare for Saturday’s game, particularly after adjusting the original tip time to help mitigate potential weather-related risks for our spectators and student-athletes, and to accommodate South Alabama’s travel concerns,” said Gerald Harrison, Marshall Vice President and Director of Athletics. “Following continued discussions with the Sun Belt Conference and South Alabama, the decision was made to postpone the game until February 16 at the Cam.

“While we recognize the challenges presented by the situation, this rescheduling does create a demanding stretch later in the season for our program, including four games in eight days, which is not ideal for the student-athlete experience. Coach Jackson and our Thundering Herd will use this additional preparation time to sharpen our focus and be ready for the challenge ahead as we prepare to travel to Texas State on Wednesday.”

The aforementioned four-game stretch referenced by Harrison starts February 14 at Georgia Southern. Then comes the makeup date with South Alabama, before Marshall hits the road for a February 19 matchup at Appalachian State and February 21 contest at Coastal Carolina.

The Herd, fresh off Thursday’s 115-60 win over UL Monroe, is next in action Wednesday at Texas State. Marshall is back at home February 4 when it welcomes Southern Miss.

All tickets for Saturday’s postponed game will be valid for the February 16 contest against South Alabama.
