Former youth swim coach in Parkersburg sentenced to 5-25 years in prison for sexually abusing children

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A former Parkersburg youth swimming coach was sentenced Friday to 5 to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges in December.

David Andrew Adams, 38, of Parkersburg, was sentenced after pleading guilty, under the Kennedy-Frazier Plea provision, to to five counts of first degree child sexual abuse.

Adams was originally charged in 2023 with sexually assaulting and abusing young girls under the age of 12. He formerly served as the head swim coach of the Parkersburg Sharks at the local YMCA.

Adams was originally indicted in September 2024 on two counts of first-degree sexual assault, three counts of third-degree sexual assault, 11 counts of sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust and several other charges.

Wood County Circuit Judge Jason Wharton also sentenced Adams Friday to 50 years of supervised release after his prison time. He’ll also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
