Most schools open late because of cold temperatures

At least 41 of the state’s 55 county school systems opened two hours later Tuesday because of the frigid temperatures that covered the state.

Many communities had readings in the single digits. The National Weather Service has a wind chill advisory in effect for a number of counties.

School systems say the extra two hours does allow for temperatures to increase at least some before kids have to wait for their school buses to arrive.
