Former Huntington food bank director accused of embezzling

A 17-count criminal indictment alleges the former director of the Huntington Area Food Bank took more than $23,000 from the operation.

Leigh Ann Zappin, 56, of Huntington was taken into custody Friday night and taken to the Western Regional Jail.

Zappin resigned from her director’s position last Oct. citing medical reasons. The indictment says she allegedly embezzled the money from Jan. through Sept. of last year.

The Huntington Area Food Bank has an annual budget of more than $6 million and services 290 agencies in 17-counties in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
